Welcome to the Bent Northrop Memorial Library 2026 Summer Reading Program for Kids, Teens, and Adults! June 17th to August 7th

Join us for this fun and free series of activities and events designed to prevent the "summer slide" and encourage everyone ages 4 - 104 to read during the summer. We’ll "dig into" books, uncover hidden histories, and absolutely see a dinosaur or two while we "Unearth a Story", the 2026 national program theme!

Everyone can sign up at the Library beginning 6/17 or online here.

In addition to our weekly events, we will have amazing raffle prizes, a huge sticker mosaic, guessing jars, weekly challenges, and much more!

Summer Reading Program Prizes sponsored by the Friends of BNML include Water Park Tickets, Trampoline Park Tickets, Lego Sets, an Earth Science Kit, an Adult Program Gift Basket, BNML Merch, and Gift Cards! Plus, we'll have Champlain Valley Fair tickets, goodies and FREE BOOKS for kids and teens!

KIDS (ages 4-12) set a goal of how many books they think they can read (or have read to them) during the program and keep track on their sticker chart. Kids will get schedules and sticker charts sent home through the Fairfield Center School or can get them at the library. They earn raffle tickets by checking out books (1 ticket per week) and for each program they attend throughout the summer. They’ll get a FREE BOOK and goodie bags plus 3 more raffle tickets for the GRAND PRIZES at the end if they’ve met their goal!

TEENS (age 13 +) and ADULTS will earn 1 raffle ticket for each book read/listened to (2 graphic novels = 1 traditional book) between 6/17 and 8/7 and 1 for each SRP program attended. Teens can choose a free book and get a goodie bag too!

Make sure to return your record before or at our Summer Reading Celebration on Friday, August 7th to be entered to win the grand prizes. The party is from 3:00-5:00 and we will draw the winners at 4:00. You do not have to be present to win and can still get your free book and goodies any time if you can't make it to the party.

Mr. K's class and Terrarium Making require registration. Links for those are in the descriptions below.

We are sponsored by the Friends of BNML, the Vermont Department of Libraries, and the NCSS Parent Child Center.

Join us for a discussion of Theo of Golden, by Allen Levi. We’ll unearth the stories of the people whose portraits hang in a southern coffeeshop in this beautiful story of giving and receiving.

THURSDAY, JUNE 25, 3:30-4:15: MARKO THE MAGICIAN
We’ll kick off a summer of fun with this fantastic show for all ages! “MARKO's engaging personality and sharp-as-a-tack wit will have you amazed and laughing at the same time. MARKO's magic is world-class, pure perfection. There is no way to truly explain the power of MARKO's magic; one must see it to believe it”. If weather permits we will be outside, so please bring a blanket or chair. Sponsored by the Vermont Department of Libraries and the Friends of BNML.

TUESDAY thru THURSDAY, JUNE 30, JULY 1 & 2: CELEBRATE AMERICA’S 250TH

Please register by calling 802-827-3945 or at https://forms.gle/YkdyYRJgPuA8reu37. Sponsored by the Parent Child Center.
